Ethel Rakestraw, 93, of Amarillo died March 5, 2019. Arrangements provided by Golden Gate Mortuary 1416 N Hughes St.  Amarillo, Texas.

Services will be held at 11am Saturday, March 9, 2019 at North Heights Church of Christ located at  1810 N. Hughes St Amarillo, Texas.  Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.

Ethel Rakestraw Born in Dallas, Texas.

She married Jim Rakestraw in Corsicana, Texas and lived in the panhandle for more than 60 years.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons; Vernell Blair and Jim A. Rakestraw. Six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

James Shepherd

James Shepherd

James Shepherd was born in the union of Benny and Florence Shepherd in Linden, Texas and attended school in Caddo Mills. There he met Effie Mae Johnson whom he later married. He worked as a farmer, owned multiple harvest trucks and later retired doing what he loved. He loved his dog “Rambo”. He’ll forever be known by his CB handle easy lover.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Florence Shepherd; sister, wife, Effie Shepherd.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories: four daughters: Pat Shepherd, Lisa (Tony) Tubbs, Terisa Shepherd Johnson all of Amarillo, Texas and Peggy (Robert) Torence of Fayetteville, NC.  One son: Richard (Leila) Shepherd of Las Lunas, New Mexico; One brother: Nathaniel (Dorothy) Shepherd of Bovina, Texas; One sister: Quinnie (Felton) Atkins of Nevada, Texas. Ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Viewing will be held Sunday March 3, 2019  from 4pm-6pm. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11am, March 4, 2019 at St. John Baptist Church located at 2301 N.W. 14th St. burial Bovina, Texas at 2pm.

Dwight Terry

Dwight Jeremaine Terry was born to April Wright and Dwight Terry, in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended public schools in Fort Worth, Texas, and Gastonia, North Carolina and graduated from Tascosa High School May of 2018.

His survivors are his mother; April Wright (Garrett) and his father Dwight. His grandmother; Diana Reed of Amarillo, TX, Gail Crawford, great grandmother; Eula Pickens(Nene) of Fort Worth, Texas, sisters; Kaeley Reed and Haeleigh Reed of Amarillo, Texas, Destini Wright of Chicago, IL, and Amanda Terry and Jade Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas, brothers; James Childs of Amarillo, Texas, and Jarrett Wright of Chicago, IL, seven nieces, 2 nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Viewing will be held Thursday, from 5-7pm, February 28, 2019 at New Covenant Missionary 3100 Angelus Dr. Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at  10am Temple of Praise Community Church, 1901 W. Amarillo Blvd.

Jerolene Wilson

Jerolene Wilson, 96, of Amarillo died February 25, 2019. Arrangements provided by Golden Gate Mortuary Amarillo, Texas.

Viewing will be held at Golden Gate Mortuary, Friday, March 1, 2019  from 5-7pm located 1416 N Hughes St Amarillo, Texas.  Funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, March 2, 2019. Emmanuel Temple located at 900 N. Adams St. Amarillo, Texas. Burial will be at Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Wilson was born April 18, 1922, in Dawson Texas. to the late Brady Dean Baldwin and Melvina Cortez Baldwin. She graduated from Patten High School in Amarillo in the spring 1940. She was united in marriage to John Talton Bowser Sr. in 1940 and to this union was born her only son John Talton Bowser Jr.

She later married Leo Wilson in 1953. She worked for Boxwell Brothers for several year. Later she became interested in nursing and attended the Vocational Nursing Program at Amarillo College and graduated in 1967 with her LVN license. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Galilee COGIC, pastor John Bowser, where she served faithfully as church secretary, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible Band teacher, Home and Foreign Mission President, and prayer leader. She loved her church family and enjoyed attending church functions.

She enjoyed dining out, spending time with family, watching game shows, and studying her bible. She was a fun and loving mother and grandmother, and we will greatly miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Wilson; her sister, Cupie Faye Lynch; her brother, Marshall Cortez Baldwin; and her nephew, Bobby Cumby.

Survivors include her son, John Bowser and wife Minnie of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Mark Bowser (Rosemary) of Euless; Kevin Bowser of Grand Prairie; Chris Bowser (Ronita) of Rowlett; and Colandra Shead (Antiwon) of Euless; thirteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, three nieces, four nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will be at 2433 Echo St. in Amarillo.

Richard Wilson was born February 4, 1938 in Itasca, Texas to the late Dallas and Velmarie Wilson.

Richard enjoyed going fishing.

Stepchildren: Mattie Pearl Duncan of Idabell, OK, Kevin Joshep, Cedric Joshep, Essie Thornton, Phinease Thornton all of Amarillo, and JoAnn Joshep of Dallas, 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

.Carrie Angel Givens, was born in Amarillo, TX, to Demarlone Givens Sr. and Marinda Ramos on December 8, 2018. Our little Angel was received by God February 5, 2019.

She is preceded in death by her great grandmother; Mary Jane Jiles and her brother; DeMarlone L. Givens Jr.

She is survived by her father; DeMarlone L. Givens Sr., mother; Marinda Ramos, brothers; DeMarlone L. Given III, DeMarlone L. Givens IV, Jaiton Ramos, sisters; Liah R. Givens, Alexis Givens, Zairya R. Ramos, Laiani Ramos, and Destinee Cox-Givens, grandmothers; Rae Lowery and Rosie Ramos.

William Curtis Collins was born in Edenton, NC, December 10, 1936. He attended Edenton High School and graduated in 1955. Later that year he joined the Air Force. William is a Vietnam Veteran and continued his service until 1977.

He was an active member of Johnson Chapel AME, Pride of the Panhandle Golf Club, and Classic Rollers Car Club.

He is survived by his children: Keith (Myra) Collins of Dallas, Texas. Kirk Collins, and Kami Collins of Amarillo, Texas. Grandchildren: Essence Collins, Lawrence Collins, Keyon Addison, Tyler Hernandez, Julian Hernandez, Kaleb Collins, Kobe Collins, and Kira Collins. Ex-wives Gloria Collins and Shelly Collins.

On January 25, 2019, God called another angel home.

Johnny Evrick Johnson was born on November 26, 1968. He served in the Army for four years from 1994 to 1998, where he achieved numerous medals for his service.  Arrangements provided by Golden Gate Mortuary.

Jacquelin Elaine Mason was born to Hershel and Clarice Mason on November 6, 1968. Jackie graduated from Tascosa High School in 1987, attended Amarillo College and went to radiology school in Houston, Texas.

She was employed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Quitman Clinic, in Houston and the Durham Bus service in Amarillo.  Arrangements provided by Golden Gate Mortuary

Anna Bell Vaughn Colbert

Anna Bell Vaugh Colbert

Anna Bell Vaughn Colbert was born July 16, 1951 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Nathaniel “N.A.” and Margie Ree Vaughn. At an early age, Anna accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at Antioch Baptist Church in Paducah Texas. She was united in marriage to Joe. C. Colbert, and out of this union came three beautiful children.  Arrangements provided by Golden Gate Mortuary.

The viewing will be held at Golden Gate Mortuary located at 1416 N. Hughes, Amarillo, Texas from 6pm-8pm on Friday, January 25, 2019.

Services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at First Christian Church located at 1901 Zula St. Paducah, Texas at 1 pm. Burial in Garden of Memories, Paducah, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother; one sister, and three brothers.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, a daughter, Juanita Colbert of Arlington Texas. Two sons Tim Colbert (Annette) and Joe Colbert Jr. (Tamilia) of Amarillo, Texas. Grandchildren, Demri Talton, Derrick Talton Jr., Jericka Colbert, Jakole Colbert, Jaylynn Colbert, Jaci Colbert, Jasmine Colbert, Savion Colbert, Dominic Colbert, Michael Colbert. She leaves to cherish a special significant friend, Larry Pennon of Amarillo, Texas.
