Gloria Foster-Young, 80, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Carter Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Roy A. Walker, pastor, as eulogist. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St.

Mrs. Gloria Foster-Young was born in Amarillo to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Foster. In November 1979, she married Joe Edward Young, a professional printer and barber.

Her education included Hines School of Music-Study of music, piano, organ and theory, by the late Mrs. Kathlyn Oliver Hines, instructor from 1940 to 1952; Music arts conservatory, Amarillo Seminar Student of Dr. Leo Podolsky in 1950; Amarillo’s Patton and Carver High Schools, Salutatorian class of 1952; Amarillo Jr. College Associate of Applied Science, 1954; Amarillo College Singers Accompanists from 1952 to 1954; Fisk University in Nashville, Bachelor of Arts Class of 1957; Fisk Jubilee Singers from 1956 to 1957, Goodwill Tour to Europe; and University of Northern Colorado, formerly Colorado State College, in Greeley, Colo., Master of Arts in 1962.

Gloria’s professional career included education teacher and choir directress with Amarillo Independent School District for 15 years; human resource Texas Workforce Committee, formerly Texas Employment Commission; 20 years as primary Church musician and directress at Carter Chapel C.M.E. Church in Amarillo 61; private music teacher for 22 years and accompanist and musician; and Hood Mass Choir in Amarillo, succeeding the late Mr. Ronnie Sherwood.

She was a member of Carter Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Superior Chapter No. 214 Masonic Council, N.A.A.C.P. No. 6151, AARP, Amarillo United Citizen Forum, Hood Mass Choir and Gamma Sigma Zeta Chapter Zeta Phi Beta sorority.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Joe E. Young of Amarillo; a daughter, Kimberly L. Gaskin of New York; and a son, Maj. Aaron Young III.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Carter Chapel C.M.E. Church, 412 S.W. Second St., Amarillo, TX 79101.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Sechrist, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2014.

No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St.

James loved to fish.

Survivors include his wife; Sabrina Sechrist; his daughters, Nicole and Sarah; a son, Chad; a sister, Tami; his granddaughters, Britney and Kadee; and a great-grandson, Jax.

Gertrude Redmon, 55, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014.

 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in New Covenant Baptist Church with Bishop James Mims, pastor, and Pastor Don Cobbs of DeeCee Ministry, officiating and eulogist. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St.

 

Gertrude Redmon was born July 15, 1959, in Spur to Billy and Doris Redmon. Her family moved from Dallas to Hereford and later to Amarillo. She was a child care worker for 20 years in the Amarillo community. She was love by many and will be missed by all.

 

She was a faithful member of DeeCee Ministry.

 

Survivors include her husband, Josephus Gooden of Amarillo; a brother, Billy Redmon and wife Bertha of Wichita Falls; a sister, Jessie Godbolt Cobbs and husband the Rev. Don Cobbs of Amarillo; a son, Derrick T. Redmon and wife Feisha of Dallas; her godson, Rolandus Parker; her daughters, Alicia Corker and husband Edward, Erica Redmon and husband Shorty, Jessica Redmon, Jenifer Redmon, Ashley Corker, Alexus Corker, Ronisha Clerkly and husband David and Mackenzie Redmon, all of Amarillo; her best friends, Phyllis Clayton, Angela Walker and Erika Perkins, all of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 10 nephews; 20 nieces; and a host of other family members and friends.
