Edward Van Gilbreath Jr., 63, of Amarillo died Friday, July 21, 2017.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Vurn C. Martin officiating and the Rev. Austin Ingram Jr. as eulogist. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary 1416 N. Hughes St.
Edward Van Gilbreath Jr. departed this life on Friday, July 21. He was born on Tuesday, June 29, 1954, in Amarillo to Vurnell and Edward Van Gilbreath Sr.
Edward graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1974 and attended trade school afterwards. Edward accepted his life to Christ at an early age and was united at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church. In fulfilling his acceptance, he earned his certification in ministry in March 2009.
Edward worked for Santa Fe Railroad and was an assistant supervisor at Mead’s Bakery until their relocation. He took strong pride in caring for his family and was especially devoted to the caretaking of his mother.
He was preceded in death by his father; his brothers, James L. Penns Jr. and Terry Van Gilbreath Sr.; and a sister, LaMarra Jean Luster
Survivors include his mother, Vurnell Gilbreath; his sons, Tarik Edward Gilbreath, Edmund Dewayne Nelson and wife Shannon and Marquis Tippet, all of Amarillo, and Edward Van Gilbreath III of Tucson, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Tarmetria, Tarika, Taye, Tre’Von, Talik, Taijh, Tyrell, Nevaeh, Tuandre, Savanna and Mario; a great-grandchild, Calyiah; his sisters, Dorothy Conict, Pearlie Penns, Gloria Gilbreath, Beverly Gilbreath, Linda Perry and husband Ralph, Sheila Gilbreath and husband Nate and Gilda “Shan” Gilbreath, all of Amarillo; his brothers, Maurice Gilbreath and Orlando “Chop” Gilbreath, both of Amarillo; and an aunt, Bertha Bowers of Amarillo.
Viewing will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
